Another New Warhammer Quest Game? -- May the Force Be With You!

Before anyone jumps at the chance to play another game, please be sure to read all of this post. If you want to play after reading all this stuff (emoticon), please respond here and tell me which type of Force user you want to play and what type of sabre style. Others will need to know this when they make their decisions. Only a FOUR-WARRIOR party will be allowed.

So, the first volunteers are in. One or two exceptions (sorry Starfighter and SpinningDice).: Starfighter is in most of the games here, so he gets the last place and could get bumped out of the game before I start it. Also, SpinningDice is becoming a multi-game guy as well and will be the second possible bumped player. I would ecourage both of you to state your interest though, because I am not too sure that very many will be interested in such a narrowed-down game.

Also, please DO NOT do any character creation until I say so. I want to make sure we are all "on the same page" before we do that... emoticon

THE GAME

This game will necessarily start out a little slower as far as creation of the game, because I still need to develop a basic Saedith's beginning stuff.

Also, this game will be given a low priority, just to make it possible to have the game and to not detract too much from the other games to which I am already committed. What this means practically is that I might at times neglect updating the game for a few days, while still trying to keep up the other games. We will have to see how things go. I am just making sure everyone understands up front that the game will likely require a little more patience on the players' part than the other games that I GM.

The game will begin as a random linked-adventures game, but could develop into something quite otherly -- sort of like The War to End all Orcs or like From the End to the Beginning. Maybe (no promises) in the future and if the warriors survive, I will be able to do some type of Star Wars theme with it (set in the Warhammer World of course -- so more of an antique/old-fashioned/Old World version of that theme).

The WARRIORS

Force Powers are spells for most practical purposes in the Warhammer World. Each Jaedai and Saedith will be sort of like a Wizard but with much better fighting skills and various limitations placed upon their Force Powers/spells that normal Wizards do not have.

I am currently trying to work out all the details of the advanced rules for the Jaedai (Jedi = Light Side Force user) and for the basic and advanced rules for the Saedith (Sith = Dark Side Force user). Therefore, I want to start a game that has two Jaedai and two Saedith -- no other warrior types involved. I think this will give me both a certain amount of impetous to complete the rules and the opportunity to see how balanced they truly are as a four-warrior party.

All four Force users will begin with Power Sabres, the Deflection Skill (to help protect against many ballistic weapons), and a choice between Aggressive and Defensive Power Sabre styles. I would prefer that two would choose Defensive and two would choose Aggressive to give a more thorough testing of these skills. The choice of sabre style can also affect various types of Power Sabre Skills that can be learned along the way. Either sabre style may be chosen by Jaedai and Saedith alike.

The Defensive style grants a Parry skill with the Power Sabre, while the Aggressive style gives greater destruction ability with the Power Sabre.

The Two Jaedai will each start with one Healing Force power of their choice (only two available and they are the fairly weak healing powers), one Defensive Force Power, and one Special Force Power.

(Not sure how the following will be decided yet.)

The Two Saedith will likely each begin with one Attack Force Power, one Defensive Force Power, and one Special Force Power.

Oh, and don't worry about the idea of dark and light being enemies. They will all be fighting on the same side for this game. Just assume for this game that light and dark are not necessarily antagonistic, though the way they use the Force will definitely be different.

See the following topic for a better idea of the Force user's creation and potential development.

Jaedai/Saedith Warrior Topic

Note: this document has already been slightly modified just today, but the topic has not been updated, though the rules remain mostly the same so far.

EDIT: Here is a link to some of the work I have done on the advanced Rules for the Jaedai (Jedi) specifically. I am fairly sure that the full amount of Force Powers that will be available to the Jaedai are included in this document -- subject to change of course.

Partial Advanced Rules for Jaedai

EDIT 2: Possible worst case scenario would be that only one or two players would volunteer. In this case, I could start the game with players controlling two warriors each (maybe one Saedith and one Jaedai each ?). But, I suspect that there will be at least two to thre volunteers.

I'd also be interested - been delaying posting to see if anyone else is taking it up, might give feno a kick and see if he wants a go - we've been playing WQ a bit at home recently.

I'm happy with either, but probably more inclined towards the Jaedai

Woohoo! that's two Jaedai and one Saedith so far. If no one else played, I could play the other Saedith, but I look forward to at least one more volunteer -- though i would be glad to start the game with Starfighter and Spinningdice in it... emoticon We shall see.

Reminder: this game will strictly be limited to a four-warrior party. This will enable me to concentrate more on testing this type of warrior's balance and etc. rather than increasing the GM's responsibilities. emoticon

I have been starting to work out the Saedith's Beginning Attack Force Powers. this takes the most time since I usually modify the Wizard's spells of the same type and try to create new ones as well.

Re: Another New Warhammer Quest Game?

I have about six beginning attack force Powers so far for the Saedith to choose from, but I will have several more added before I am done. These will be in a table from which the Saedith may choose after rolling one (OR two) 1d6 -- more explanation will come with the rules. Then he chooses from the powers of the casting cost rolled.

The Saedith's beginning Attack Force Powers will be a much more complicated process -- with much more player choices involved -- than the Jaedai's choice of Healing Force Power (only two to choose from). The Saedith may even have two Attack Force Powers. More info to come in the rules when shared.... emoticon

I am thinking that I might eventually divide the Saedith's and the Jaedai's rules into two separate documents for easier usage -- more user-friendly.

So far the volunteers for this game are:

Aecrylis: Saedith (Sith)

SpinningDice: Jaedai (Jedi)
Starfighter: Jaedai (Jedi)
Old Warrior: Saedith (Sith)

But, these last three could be bumped by other volunteers (all understand this if they have read the full post on this game emoticon ). If any are bumped: bumping order will be Old Warrior first, then Starfighter, and lastly SpinningDice.

Potential players may go ahead and state which saber style you would prefer: Defensive or Aggressive. Please be sure to read the basic rules for the Jaedai, which include the beginning skills associated with the two different styles. Also, check out the Power Sabre Skills Table which will show the potential benefits of each style -- three possibilities for each one throughout the sabre skills list.

I emphasize that Saedith and Jaedai may both choose either sabre style they want. Also, I would like to have two warriors to demonstrate each style if possible -- probably best to have at least one Jaedai with the defensive style for obvious healing strategy -- survival of the healers = survival of the party (generally).

BTW, the name of the game so far will be May the Force be with You!

Magic Users Versus the Jaedai/Saedith!

The Jaedai and the Saedith are going to attract more magic users along the way -- for better or for worse.

Jaedai/Saedith get a natural magic resistance because of their close affinity with the Force.

Saedith in particular will draw power (gold/experience) from the killing of monster magic users. But, this doesn't mean that the Jaedai should just let the Saedith take all the magic user kills. Besides, that could be an awfully dangerous way to play, knowing how potentially dangerous monster magic users can be.

The Saedith will have a very good incentive to kill as many magic users as they can: +100 times the monster's level gold (or XP if the GM so chooses -- we shall see). This will help, I think to show how the Dark Side Force user can gain greater advancement -- more quickly as they defeat other Dark Side users...

But, no, killing of other warriors will be not allowed in this game. I usually don't go for such blatant antagonism between warriors who are supposed to cooperate to make the game work. emoticon

I am working up a serious table as an addendum to the full Jaedai/Saedith rules for determining what type of magic user will arrive whenever certain things happen. It will show the gold value of the magic users as well. emoticon

Maybe later on, I can include some special characters in the mix, who use Dark magic.... Mwahahaha!

Since the Jaedai's basic stuff is all done, I will allow SpinningDice and Starfighter to go ahead and submit the following for character creation (with the understanding that we three can still get bumped emoticon):

Name

Avatar

Bio/background (if desired)

Wounds (1D6+8) (re-roll if the first roll is a 1, keeping the second result)

Power Tokens (2D6 -- as separate 1D6 rolls) (re-roll for each if the first roll is a 1, keeping the second result)

Sabre Style (which Starfighter already submitted)

Choice of beginning Healing Force Power (either Heal Small Wounds or OR Finger of Light -- no dice roll for this one. Remember that Cure Small Wounds has been modified from the original version for the Jaedai, includes a chance of failure. Also, notice that other healing powers, as well as many Defense and Special Powers, on the advance list have prerequisites. This could affect what your beginning choice would be.)

1D6 and choice for Defense Force Power using the Defense Force Power table in the Jaedai's Beginning Force Powers rules.

1D6 and choice for Special Force Power using the Special Force Power table in the Jaedai's Beginning Force Powers.

Introducing the Jaedai/Saedith

I think this covers everything. emoticon

Very good, Starfighter! I do believe your character creation is complete!

Two questions: Does Dr stand for docter? Did you know that Mara is the name of a female Sith/Jedi in the Star Wars books -- outside the storylines of the movies?

She started out as a dangerous spy and assassin working for the evil Emporer, but turned to the Light and to become Luke Skywalker's wife... emoticon

I am giving the Saedith an extra attack that may only be used for a Force Power Attack (attack spell). The Jaedai will always have 1 Luck more (by characteristic) than the Saedith. I thought it would only be fair to let the Jaedai (Jedi) have a little luck to help him compete... emoticon

The Saedith gets no gold for any healing -- I am not sure he can ever heal his comrades -- though some powers will help to heal himself. The Jaedai on the other hand will get gold/XP as usual (like the WIzard) for healing others.

Good idea, Aecrylis. If you read above, you will see that I am not yet ready for the Sith character's to be created. However, with decisions I have made so far, the Sith characters may have done exactly what you have done so far toward their creation. emoticon

I still need to complete the Sith's begining spells tables for their beginning choices and dice rolls. See in the previous posts above for some ideas about what the process will be like.... emoticon

EDIT: I myself will now wait to see what sabre style SpinninDice chooses before I make my choice.

EDIT 2: I am almost done with the Sorcerer's Table. Woohoo! Just DL 9 and 10 to complete.

EDIT 3: above, when I say "read above", I am referring to what was posted on page one of this topic. emoticon

EDIT: Changed the table to include an experience bonus for both Jaedai and Saedith for killing magic users. The Saedith gets a little more of a bonus than the Jaedai.

Re: Another New Warhammer Quest Game? -- May the Force Be With You!

Thanks for the suggestion, Starfighter.

I decided to go ahead and give the Jaedai about 5% of the gold value experience (extra) and the Saedith about 7%. I added these values into the chart and re-worked two columns (gold value and magic user type) to make them into one. The chart is (hopefully) now in its final form for the final, full Jaedai and Saedith rules.

I wanted to get this chart worked out so that it would be ready to play from the beginning and thus show the difference in experience/gold that the Jaedai and Saedith will earn based upon the slaying of these monster magic users. Also, I trust this rule about the magic users appearing more often will help to convey the feeling of how the Force (Dark and Light) is involved in the drawing of certain types of foes to the Force users.

I did a trial run of rolling 2D6s to see how often I rolled doubles. I got 9 times out of 50 rolls, which is just slightly more often than 1/6th of the time. Then I did it again and got only 5 in 50 (10% of the time). Then I did it again (a third time) and got 9 out of 50 again. Three rolls in succession were doubles this time. I think I will leave this rule as it stands and see how things go.

Last Call for Volunteers? Maybe...

I think Ravage mk2 might want to play. Any more volunteers? Please let me know here, because the Saedith's basic rules should soon be completed.

I keep getting sidetracked into the advanced rules because they are so much related to the basic rules. Of course, in most of my games, I pretty well start with the advanced rules from the very beginning.

One of the few exceptions is that I allow the Pit fighter at BL 1 to have his full +1 Toughness from Pit Armour and then make him stick to his pieces of armour after the first adventure. This means that he has to buy several pieces of pit armour in order to have that +1 T protection all over his body.

The Saedith's Basic Rules PLUS! :)

Here are the beginning rules plus most of the advanced rules for the Saedith: - Saedith's Rules

It is time to decide who will play the second Saedith... emoticon

Ravage mk2, will be contacted, because I think he may be interested. I will gladly step down once a fourth volunteer (Ravage mk2 maybe) wants to play the second Sith.

Also, it is time for the full creation of both Saedith.

Here are the things needed (which Aecrylis has already started on):

Wounds roll (re-rolling a 1 one time) and
Name
Avatar
2D6 for Power tokens = 2 separate 1D6s (re-rolling each 1 once)

Those were the easy things.

Choose Sabre Style (Aggressive or Defensive) -- though I think both Saedith will be aggressive for this game, since the two Jaedai have chosen the Defensive style. Nevertheless, see the Power Sabre Skills table for more information.

Choose Beginning Force Powers

Method One: Roll 1D6 for each Force Power table (re-rolling a 1 the first time if desired). then choose one Force Power from each table (Attack, Defense, Special)

Method Two: Roll 1D6 two times (re-rolling a 1 if desired for each) for choosing two Attack Force Powers. Then roll 1D6 either for Defense or for Special (decide beforehand and re-roll a 1 if desired).

Method Three: May decide to use this after rolling two dice in Method Two above. It is basically the same as Method Two, except that the Saedith combines the two Attack Powers dice and then uses that number to choose just one Attack Power. This means that he would then have only two beginning powers isntead of three.

Click the rules link above for full details.

EDIT: I modified the file again and have included about all the work I have done so far on the Saedith (Sith). The main thing that needs doing now is to work out the rest of the Saedith's and Jaedai's full Force Powers tables and a bit more between adventures stuff for the Jaedai -- perhaps a special Jaedai location...??? emoticon

Re: The Saedith's Basic Rules PLUS! :)

From what I can gather, the only thing I need to roll now is the spells?

I choose 2 attack spells and 1 Special

Dice rolls:
Attack Spell #1 : 5
Attack Spell #2 : 6
Special Spell #1 : 4

Attack spell 5:
Crush Foe, Dark Side Empowerment or Steal Life

I pick Crush Foe (a question, does Steal Life require Sab Life first?)

Attack spell 6:
Dark Frenzy or Force Storm

I pick Dark Frenzy (I understand an attack force will cost me an attack, so this spell is pretty much useless until I reach BL2 right?)

Special Spell 4:
Force Jump or Force Vision

I pick Force Vision..

now.. anything I missed?

Time to answer questions:

Yes, you need Sap life in order to have Steal Life. Prerequisite means that it requires that power to be learned first.

Yes, you may start with Steal Life, but only if you choose Sap Life instead of Dark Frenzy.

Dark Frenzy gives the Saedith Initiate +1 attack for the turn. This is an addition to the attack Characteristic, effectively changing it to 2 Attacks instead of 1 Attack. The Saedith has +1 attack already which may only be used for a Force Power Attack (which Dark Frenzy counts as 1 attack for this purpose, but it then lets the Saedith attack more with his Power Sabre). Thus Dark Frenzy is actually very valuable at BL 1, because the +1 Attack that the Saedith starts with may only be used for an Attack Force. Think in terms of what the power sabre can do and the possbilities in regard to death-blows..... emoticon

EDIT: More explanation.

A Saedith at BL one with Dark Frenzy only has one attack (+1 attack using only the Force). If he uses the Force attack to cast Dark Frenzy he then has two attacks (+1 attack using only the Force, but this extra attack was used to cast Dark Frenzy)

goodie.. emoticon

I'll keep Dark Frenzy then.. even if I wont get to use it that often (power 6 and all that..)

but I can imagine how usefull it will get at higher levels.. getting +2 attacks at BL2 for instance.. now thats just mean emoticon

Will a sith get power +1 at BL too aswell ? (like a wizard gains extra current power at higher levels)

If you read the full rules, it will answer most of your questions I think. emoticon

Yes, the Saedith gets the same power benefits as a normal Wizard playing under OW Rules. emoticon

EDIT: oh, but that means BL 1 gets no bonus in power, but BL 2 gets 1D6+1, Bl 3 gets 1D6+2 and etc....

Also, there are really interesting things in my opinion in the advanced rules. See the full rules link above.
